OCEANS MATTER PODCAST - SEASON 2 PETE CEGLINSKI

Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with Pete Ceglinski, the co-founder of Seabin, on my podcast. During our conversation, we discussed his childhood in Byron Bay, how he became a product designer, and how his passion for sustainability led him to create Seabin.

After realising that many of the plastic products he was designing were not sustainable, Pete decided to travel overseas and work on super yachts. It was during this time that he met his now business partner, Andrew Turton, who had the initial prototype design for the Seabin. Pete's product design background helped to evaluate Andrew's model and identify the deficiencies that existed in making it a solid commercially viable product.

The two went to work and started Seabin, but they encountered many hurdles along the way. From capital raising to dodgy business partnerships, Pete and Andrew had to navigate a wild start-up journey. Despite these challenges, they persevered and eventually found success.

During our conversation, Pete also shared his views on the plastic issue occurring in our oceans and discussed other troubling plastic issues, such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and Boyan Slats' ongoing effort to clean it up. He also talked about the future of Seabin and where he sees the company going in the short, medium, and long term.
