Glen Casey: A Surfing Legend on a Mission for a Cleaner Ocean

Glen Casey's life has been nothing short of extraordinary. Born in the inner western suburbs of Melbourne, Glen discovered his passion for surfing during his teenage years, and it quickly became an addiction that would shape his journey.

From working at Rip Curl to competing in the prestigious Rip Curl Pro, Glen's love for the sport led him to pioneer new territories along Victoria's rugged south coast, alongside surfing legends such as Wayne Lynch, Maurice Cole, and Simon Buttoshaw.

However, Glen's journey didn't stop there. He went on to establish a successful sales agency, only to leave it behind to pursue a cause dear to his heart. This led to a fortuitous meeting with Yvon Chouinard from Patagonia and ultimately the opening of Australia's first Patagonia store. Today, Glen remains committed to fighting for a cleaner ocean and a brighter future, not only for himself but also for his daughter, Willow.

Glens connection to surfing runs deep. His initial encounter with the sport as a teenager left an indelible mark on his life. From that moment forward, he pursued his passion with unwavering dedication. His time at Rip Curl, one of the world's leading surf brands, further solidified his place within surfing's rich history. Competing in the renowned Rip Curl Pro elevated him to a league shared by only a select few, as the first Melbournian to accomplish such a feat. Glen's insatiable appetite for exploration and adventure then led him to conquer the untamed waves of Victoria's south coast, alongside esteemed surfing icons who recognized his talent and determination.

The entrepreneurial spirit of Glen and business acumen were instrumental in shaping his professional trajectory. After leaving the world of competitive surfing, he set his sights on establishing a sales agency, which swiftly grew into an impressive 11 million dollar enterprise. However, despite his success, Glen yearned for a more profound purpose. This longing for a cause that aligned with his values and principles eventually led him to make a life-changing decision. Glen's encounter with Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, marked a turning point in his life. Their meeting inspired Glen to embark on a mission to protect the environment and make a tangible difference in the world. Glen played a pivotal role in opening Australia's first Patagonia store, a significant milestone in his pursuit of promoting sustainable practices and raising awareness about the importance of ocean conservation.

Today, Glen remains passionate about preserving our oceans and creating a brighter future for the next generation. While he has moved on to new projects, his unwavering dedication to environmental causes shines through in all his endeavors. Glen's commitment to advocating for a cleaner ocean stems not only from his personal connection to the surfing world but also from his love for his daughter, Willow. He firmly believes that every individual has a responsibility to protect our planet and ensure its sustainability. He is working closely with the Prior Foundation and Citzens of the Great Barrier Reef for a project on restoring our beautiful reefs.

In my conversation with Glen Casey, we were privileged to interact with a humble, knowledgeable, and articulate individual who has undeniably left his mark on the history of surfing. From his early years as a passionate surfer to his influential role in the establishment of Australia's first Patagonia store and pioneering waves along the coast of Victoria, Glen has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the cause of ocean conservation. As he continues to fight for a cleaner future, Glen Casey serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the power of individual actions and the profound impact they can have on the world around us.
